Playful design

The creatures in the apartment were meant to spook Dice, so they have stick-figure limbs and big eyes that make them look creepy and skeletal. The humans were given similar features to maintain consistency in the character design.

Since the main character resembles a playing die, the floor was designed like a Snakes and Ladders or Ludo board that he could roll on. That’s where the flat-perspective compositions came from.

Production friendly approach

The final characters have clearly defined shapes and outlines. Strong key poses with emphasis on ease-in and ease-out drawings were crucial to make the animation register without looking stilted.
